AI & interaction presentation

06.12

The final presentation took place on Friday. And overall it went well. The story was clear and the reason why we came up with the final concept was strong. The feedback we received was interesting and valuable. For example, the question arose as to the minimum amount of movement required to recognize a movement. We have not thought about this too much while interacting with the prototype. But we certainly have an idea about how accurate the movements should be.

We have now used the location of the hand on the vinyl as input to recognize a tone. But in the future we could look at the length of the movement or the speed to create a sound based on it. To create an even stronger connection between sound and movement in this way.

We also received feedback about our finding about adding visual feedback. Where the DJs use small pieces of tape as an extra check where they are, that visual feed back was missing from our prototype. This is a limitation of technology, but it would certainly be interesting to look for a way to replace it.

I would also like to add some form of haptic feedback if I still had time. DJs feel the record player’s movement to determine how far they can move the records. This ensures an even stronger interaction between the technology and the user. Because after a certain distance you cannot turn the record player further back. This limitation ensures that DJs handle their record players very carefully. Which in turn fits in with the subtle movements that we want to measure.
